play of the day

LeGarrette Blount's game-winning 35-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter of last night's victory against the Colts was a clutch performance and arguably the most important play of the NFL's fourth week. The play kept Tampa Bay tied atop the NFC South with New Orleans and on solid footing in what looks to be a competitive NFC playoff picture, it kept Indianapolis atop the Andrew Luck sweepstakes and, most importantly, it won me my fantasy football matchup.

Okay, clearly my fantasy football team is of the least importance, but I'm off to a 4-0 start in a very competitive 16 team league despite using my first round draft choice - 4th overall - on Jamaal Charles, and I feel like a little bragging is justified*. Also, I wanted to share the link to Grantland.com's analysis of the play, which is both cool and informative. I'm enjoying their efforts to break down one play a week and diagram it at the line of scrimmage.

*I'm sure I'm now dooming my team to a 4-9 record for the season.

Football is such a complex game requiring 11 players to all be on the same page, moving at the same tempo in order to execute a plan correctly. Features like this help fans like me appreciate just how true that is.
